Back in the day, Hollywood actors, directors and producers understood politics in a way that the naive whippersnappers of the contemporary age could never comprehend.
Take, for instance, the actors, directors and producers involved in the production of “The Ghost Breakers,” a 1940 comedy starring legendary actor Bob Hope.
According to a plot synopsis provided by Turner Classic Movies, the film told the story of how radio broadcaster Larry Lawrence (Hope) and his valet traveled to the recently inherited home off the coast of Cuba of new owner Mary Carter.
Before arriving at the home, however, Lawrence and Carter were repeatedly warned of its haunted nature by a number of people, including one of Carter’s long-time acquaintances, Geoff Montgomery.
“When a person dies and is buried, its seems there are certain voodoo priests who … have the power to bring him back to life,” Montgomery said in one scene, describing the zombies that were allegedly present at the home.
“How horrible!” Carter immediately replied.
“It’s worse than horrible because a zombie has no will of his own,” Montgomery continued. “You see them sometimes walking around blindly with dead eyes, following orders, not knowing what they do, not caring.”
And then came the punchline. Watch the full clip below:
“You mean like Democrats?” Hope’s character, Lawrence, replied.
Exactly like Democrats, good sir.
Instead of taking the time to really understand the issues, Democrats — particularly those in Hollywood — too often jump on the bandwagon of whatever happens to be trending, regardless of whether there is any merit to it.
Consider contemporary Hollywood, which functions like a hive wherein nearly every member maintains the exact same beliefs about abortion, gun rights, illegal immigration and, of course, the election of President-elect Donald Trump.
There used to be more diversity in Hollywood, ironically enough. As an example, Bob Hope was a proud and outspoken Republican, according to Ranker.
These days, identifying as a Republican and making a joke at the expense of Democrats could cost an actor, director or producer his or her career. Sad.
